What do I do when I’m Sick?

Healing is an area of life that we all need at one time or another. God designed our bodies to heal themselves. If you get a cut you see the body heal itself. There comes times in life when we are diagnosed with serious, life threatening diseases. It is a wonderful thing to know what the Word of God says about this subject.

It is really God’s prescription pad for instructions or how to get deliverance and healing in our bodies. I was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. I prayed and sought the Lord as what to do. The first thing the Lord showed me was this:

Exo 15:26  And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

I have made a choice in choosing the Bible as being my source of truth for this life. Everyone has one in life as for me, mine is the Bible. The Bible reveals to me that God is a Healer and He is the Lord that heals Me.

So the Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So as I read the Word of God, study the Word of God faith increases in my life by these truths. The next thing in the prescription that I followed for getting healing was the obedience upon doing this:

Jas 5:14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Jas 5:15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

I went to my church and had the elders of the church pray over me. Then I continued studying what the Bible said on the subject of healing and I came across this:

Isa_55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Then I read this verse:

Num 23:19  God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

So as I was on my quest for truth I not only found out that God is my healer but that He also has some instructions for us to know and understand. After I went to the elders I looked in the Bible and I found out that God’s word will not return void but it will accomplish that which pleases God.

Since he is the healer we know that it pleases God to heal. Next in my study I read that it is Impossible for God to lie. I told my wife when I was at deaths door that I am going to bet my life on the truth that God will not, cannot lie.

If God says He will forgive you sins, heal your body, save your soul then we need to have faith in what God says. The Bible says without faith it is impossible to please God:

Heb_11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

There is a promise there that God is a rewarder of them that “diligently” seek him.

I continued to read and study and came upon these verses:

Pro 3:1  My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Pro 3:2  For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Pro 3:3  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
Pro 3:4  So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
Pro 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Pro 3:6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Pro 3:7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Pro 3:8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

There is tremendous instruction here for healing. I memorized these verses and would meditate upon them and do what it told me to do. One of the hardest one was not to lean to my own understanding of things.

Then I came across this scripture:

Isa_53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. There is healing virtue that still flows out of those stripes received by Christ a couple of thousand years ago.

I also found in the New Testament this verse:

1Pe_2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Another declaration of the healing virtue that flows from the stripes Christ received from His beating.

Then I read these two verses that were such a blessing to me:

Psa 30:2  O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

Psa_6:2  Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.

In the book of Jeremiah it says heal me Lord and I will be healed, save me and I will be saved:

Jer_17:14  Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

There were these and so many others that increased my faith in God and His Word. But then I found out that there are somethings with God that are already done and there are somethings that we are told we have to “do”.

There is a very important fight that we have to fight and it is this:

1Ti_6:12  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

There are somethings we have to “Receive” by faith let me print two:

Joh 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Mar 11:24  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Getting the Word of God in us is of utmost importance because it equips us with a sword to fight this good fight of faith:

Eph 6:16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

There is going to be a battle that goes on when you stand in faith upon the Word of God. We must be empowered with the Divine Power of God:

2Pe 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Having Divine Power from God, God’s promises, His Word, His instructions, His direction on what pathway to travel according to His Word, To fight the good fight of faith and lift up that shield of Faith and take out the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and take this healing virtue that came from Christ two thousand years ago and fight the good fight of faith until it manifests in our lives.
