Now that’s the answer….
I was at the church yesterday when a woman came in heavy laden with problems. She began to pour out her heart about her situations with tears running down her face.
Now I’m all for having a listening ear, giving hugs, wiping tears and blowing noses but that doesn’t fix any problems that a person is having.
Almost every single time what someone is focusing on going through a situation I have found out it is a symptom of a underlying problem. I don’t like to assume anything so I ask this lady some questions as she was crying.
I asked her if she had any spiritual beliefs. She said yes I believe in God. I quoted this scripture to her:
Jas_2:19 You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
To say you believe in God covers the same territory as saying you believe in George Washington. History Books prove they both existed but just because they both existed and you believe in them does not make a change in your life.
Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to Wendy’s makes you a strawberry milkshake.
I asked her who was Jesus Christ to her. She said that he is the Son of God. Her reply was not that he was her Savior or Lord but that he is the Son of God. We have all heard that growing up and heard it on TV, radio, books etc.
I asked her if she believed in Heaven and Hell and she said yes.
I asked her if she was to die today where would she go, Heaven or Hell? She said Heaven.
I asked her, why would God let you come into His Heaven and she said because I have a good heart. I asked her if what you are believing in to get you into Heaven was not the truth based on the Bible would you like to know what the Bible says. She said yes.
I went through scriptures that reveal that we are sinners in need of a Savior that forgives sins and saves souls. At the end of reading scriptures I asked her if she was a sinner in need of forgiveness and God’s salvation in her life and she said yes.
The last time I heard of a poll that was taken it said about 84 percent of the people in this country said they believe in God. We have some real distorted definitions of what it is to believe in God. You are not saved by works but without works you are not saved. No works is a dead faith worth nothing.
To believe in Christ is to be a follower of Christ, His teachings, to be an imitator of Christ, to be Christ like in all of our ways. A departure from the old life and the entrance into a new life:
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Some people call themselves Christians but you can not tell any difference between them and the people that are not Christians. They talk alike, do the same things, spend their money the same way, go to the same places etc.
It’s almost like the person that says I am a lawyer but has never went to law school, never tried any cases, does not know the law but will one day stand before the Judge impersonating a lawyer and have no answers.
He is going to be in trouble with the Judge for trying to impersonate a lawyer and practicing law without a license. He would be thrown out of the courtroom.
You know I think that some people who call themselves Christians think they can enter Heaven in a kind of lukewarm condition one foot in the church and one in the world but what does the Bible say:
Rev_3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
I know there is something comforting about saying, “Well I said the sinner’s prayer in Vacation Bible school when I was five but you live like the devil, sound like the devil, dress like the devil, act like the devil all your life and cling to a prayer you said when you were five years old.
Friend do not be deceived that is not a follower of Christ, someone who has dedicated their life to the Lord, came to a place of surrender and said this is no longer my life but it has been bought and paid for by the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and I am no longer my own person:
2Co 5:15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
Let’s not get Christianity confused with going to the church house on Sunday and Wednesdays. Christianity is how you live outside of the church house.
There are 168 hours in a week. Our church services last about 1 1/2 hours long, three times a week. That comes to 4 1/2 hours. What is going on those other 163 1/2 hours, how does your life measure up to the Word of God?
Really ask yourself the question, how much time do you devote to being a follower of Christ. Is there enough evidence in your life that if you were taken to court and were accused of being a Christian, would they have enough evidence to convict you?
Really now, compare yourself to your neighbor that does not go to church, is there really much difference between you and them, other than you go to church maybe once a week?
It is just amazing how if you ask a family if they would like to go out to eat with you they would jump on it. Ask them if they would like to go to the beach you are going to grill up some steaks and some shrimp and lobster tails on the grill and have a great time most would jump on it. Ask if they would like to go on a trip to Hawaii and you are going to pick up the tab, most would jump on it but ask someone to come to a Sunday evening service or a Wednesday night Bible study and you would think you are asking them to let you pull their two front teeth out.
Some say well I have to go to work on Monday and I just want to relax before i go to work on Monday on Sunday nights I take it easy, I just go on Sunday mornings, that’s enough for me.
Some say it’s a long drive to church and back and we have kids and they need to get in bed, have showers and get ready for school on Monday.
But you know what? When it is some event coming to town where their most favorite entertainer is performing it’s funny how they can make it to that. It doesn’t matter how much it cost or how far it is to drive they will make it to that.
Why? Because it is something they WANT to do. Something they VALUE, something that is SIGNIFICANT to their lives.
We lightly or quickly go over this scripture:
Php_2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Why am I saying all of this today? I don’t want anyone to miss the boat, to end up in Hell. In the Lake of Fire:
Rev_20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
I relate to the words found in Ezekiel:
Eze 3:18 “When I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.
Eze 3:19 “Yet if you have warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered yourself.
Eze 3:20 “Again, when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I place an obstacle before him, he will die; since you have not warned him, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.
Eze 3:21 “However, if you have warned the righteous man that the righteous should not sin and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; and you have delivered yourself.”
I’m sick and tired of this pseudo Christianity that is being peddled around today in the modern church age. It is a secular, humanism that tries to combine two different systems and label it Christianity and millions are going to Hell thinking they are on their way to Heaven.
You see in the modern day church there is no room for scripture like these:
1Pe_1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe_1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
or one like this:
Mat_5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
This is not talking about us having sinless perfection but it is a command for us to be like the Lord, in mercy, in love, in kindness etc. To do the work of the Lord, to be servants of the Lord etc. To worship and praise the Lord, to have a thankful heart to the Lord.
The Lord wants us to be like Thoroughbred race horses not mules who are notorious for their stubbornness and laziness.
How is your walk with God today? Are you saved according to the Bible? Are you striving to live a holy life today and walk close to the Lord? Are you loving people?Forgiving people? Showing Grace and Mercy to others around you?
Or are you carrying the name Christian and you are over come with bitterness, anger, resentment, are your thoughts plagued with wrong imaginations, wrong thoughts? Sinful thoughts?
Are you controlling, manipulative, intimidating others by your words, attitude and actions. Is it a living Hell living around you? Does the world evolve around you being happy? Everything done your way?
I will close with this scripture from the Apostle Paul from the book of Galatians:
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
I am not trying to get someone to try harder today, to pray more today, to read their Bible more today or go to church today. I would be putting your success, your victory, change upon you. But you do play an active part.
For sure pray, study the Bible, go to church but I am pointing you in another direction than self for victory, salvation, sanctification, justification, glorification and it is found here:
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I shared with this woman yesterday that the answer to our dilemma, the answer to our problems and our needs is found in Christ Jesus.
We helped with money and food yesterday but the supplier of her needs and our needs today is Jesus Christ.
God bless you, have a blessed day today!!!!!
