“Two factors in life can make you happy – if someone gives to you or if you give to someone else – and only one is under your control.”
Happiness not to be confused with joy, which is the fruit of the Holy Spirit, is a product of happenings. A new home, car, baby, winning the lottery, finding a hundred dollar bill etc., makes you happy.
You can’t really get a new home every day or a new car every day, have a baby every day so the initial happiness that comes from those things is short lived.
But a happiness that you get when you give can be experienced when ever you want. The Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive.
That means it is better to be in a place of being able to give than having to be in a place of needing to receive.
Now some people just equate this with giving money. But I am talking about something much more than money. I am talking about your life, your time, your energy, your encouragement, exhortation, edification of others. Things like phone calls, visits, cards sent, rides for people, helping the elderly, those that are sick or incapacitated. Giving comes in a variety of ways.
If you are depressed today or sad because of different things going on in your life, then try reaching out and giving to others, you will find it will bring a happiness inside of your heart that would otherwise not be there.
Giving makes you feel more valuable and significant in this life which in turn makes you happier. See, you can control happiness in your life.
God bless you, have a wonderful day and a blessed week.
