Servant? Who do you think I am?

How do you define servant? Well, in a nutshell, it is just a person in service to another. Jesus said if you really want to be great then be a servant to others:

Mat 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

I look around and I see people who want to be served but not serve. I watch people who come to church and want to be ministered to but do not want to minister.

I hear people say I cannot afford to tithe but they get things they want. You don’t hear them say can I come in and clean the church or the bathrooms or clean the glass etc.

No that is beneath them, let someone else do that. Let some one else do other things that need to be done in the church I just want to come and sit down and hear some music and hear a good talk and then go home and live my life, but don’t ask me to do anything and for sure I am not going to offer.

We have been bought and paid for with a price. We are no longer our own person:

1Co_6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

When you get things in the right perspective the eyes of your understanding are enlightened:

Eph_1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

The servant does what the Master tells him to do. The servant does things when he or she does not feel like doing them. Because they belong to the Master.

Praise the Lord we are not a servant any longer! What Randy? I thought you just said we needed to serve? Listen to what the Bible says:

Gal 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

So now we are the sons of God whether you are male or female:

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Joh 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

So we have left the identity of a slave and have been adopted into the family of God. We are now sons of God who gladly serve the Lord out of Love for God and for others.

Gal 4:1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
Gal 4:2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

Now we have to see today that even if we are heirs of God that we are still the children of God. We are growing, being raised up in the things of the Lord. Being trained and chastised until the day comes when all the Father has for us comes into our possession.

Eph 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Eph 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Eph 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
Eph 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

So who sweeps the parking lot of the church? Who turns the heat or airconditioning on? Who turns on the lights? Who sets up the sound system? Who cleans the bathrooms? The windows? The nursery? The kitchen?

Who passes out and orders communion juice and wafers? Who pays the bills? Who fixes things when they are broken? Who passes out bulletins? Takes ups offerings?

Well, Randy, that’s what we pay tithes for! Folks, less than twenty percent of the people pay tithes others just give a tip to the Lord but they are the first to complain if it is too hot or cold or something else is not to their liking.

So what am I saying today? Look to an area that you can serve at. It does not have to be teaching or preaching. It might be making phone calls or sending cards to the sick or hurting. There are many, many ways of serving.

The Bible says God loves a cheerful giver. It is much better to be in a place of giving than having to be in a place of receiving. God bless you today servant of God !!!!
